Derek S. Lax is a 2002 graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in Financial Management and Consumer Affairs. After finishing in Columbus he attended The John Marshall Law School in Chicago. Derek, upon graduation from law school and admission to the Illinois Bar in 2005, worked as a transactional attorney specializing in real estate, corporate, and probate matters for three years before joining the Ankin Law Office.

Derek practices in the area of Workers' Compensation, and enjoys going to work everyday fighting on behalf of injured workers. He is a member of the Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Association.

In his free time he enjoys sports, and spending time with his family and friends. Derek, who was born and raised in Philadelphia, is an avid Philly sports fan and a diehard Buckeye.
